Workplace musculoskeletal problems in occupational therapy students

Abstract Background Workplace musculoskeletal disorders are the leading cause of morbidity and disability in Australian workforce. Over one five occupational therapists report workplace disorders, with almost half reporting symptoms. In other health professions, students novice clinicians (≤5 years practice) experience greater risk but little is known about therapy students. Methods this cross-sectional study, a survey including self-reported Standardised Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire was administered to post work-based training. problems were defined as aches, pains, numbness or discomfort. Questions explored body sites affected, prevalence, impact on activity, need for medical assistance, demographic information. Prevalence reported using descriptive statistics. Factors associated over previous 12 months last 7 days examined logistic regression modelling. Results Response rate 53% ( n = 211/397). One-third respondents (33.6%, 71/211) problem months.
